UPDATED: County DA’s Office Announces Results of Drug Investigation

At a joint press conference this morning, June 2, District Attorney Greg Oakes was joined by members of the New York State Police to announce the results of a large investigation into the sale of illegal drugs. The drugs were allegedly being sold, many in plain sight, at the annual Sterling Stage FolkFest Music Festival, the DA said. The drugs are valued at “tens of thousands” of dollar; some individual types of drugs were estimated to be worth $10,000 to $15,000, according to State Police.

With the official designation of the SUNY Oswego Metro Center as a branch campus, people residing or working in the greater Syracuse area will be able to complete in-demand degree and certificate programs at the Syracuse location in Clinton Square. “Opened in downtown Syracuse in 2008, our off-campus site grew quickly into a significant asset for the Central New York region,” SUNY Oswego President Deborah F. Stanley said. “Now as a branch campus, it will meaningfully extend our access and excellence.”

The city of Oswego Republican Committee announced it has endorsed William “Billy” Barlow for mayor of Oswego. Several city council candidates were also endorsed, mixed with some familiar names and newcomers. The Republican City Committee also endorsed candidates for the Oswego County Legislature.

DA Oakes Announces Re-Election Bid

Gregory Oakes has announced that he is seeking a second term as Oswego County District Attorney. Oakes, who has served as a prosecutor in the county since 2001, was first elected District Attorney in 2011. Since taking office, District Attorney Oakes has enhanced the prosecution of felony cases while working with the courts to move those cases more efficiently.

Ride for Ramps Powers ARISE’s Ramp Program

ARISE revved up its Ride for Ramps program in Saturday. In honor of the 25th year of the ADA proclamation, members of ARISE and a slew of volunteers hosted a fundraiser with assistance from Lighthouse Lanes and Oswego Speedway. More than 100 motorcycle enthusiasts joined in to help raise funds for the ramps program.

Christina’s Credits: Tomorrowland – See It Tomorrow, The Next Day Or Never

Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland: come for the sequence of George Clooney rocketing out of his house in a bathtub, stay to see how Disney works out a little girl robot love conundrum. Let me first say I did not realize Tomorrowland was being marketed as a children’s film. With George Clooney being one of the film’s stars, the other being Britt Robertson, an actor who attracts a slightly older group, I expected an entirely different film and one that certainly would not get children flocking to theaters to see it in droves.
