State Offices Closures In Storm Areas

In light of the weather conditions associated with the continuing winter storm, state offices in Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Franklin, Genesee, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, and Wyoming counties will be closed on Thursday, November 20. A directed early departure for non-essential employees is hereby granted and employees do not have to charge credits.

Half-Shire Historical Society News – November 21, 2014

The society hosted an after-hours gathering for the Pulaski-Eastern Shore Chamber of Commerce on November 15. The event took place following a meeting of the Salmon River Fishing Museum Board and an informal meeting of the chamber of commerce nominating committee. On November 16, Erma Schroeder and Shawn Doyle had to turn around and reset the hall for a memorial luncheon given in memory of Thomas Knoeller, 54-year-old son of Margaret Kastler who died in Florida on October 22.

Oswego High School is the only school in all of U.S. Army All-American Marching Band history to have a student selected as an All-American every single year. What makes their band program so unique?

Senator Patty Ritchie Delivers $50,000 for Mexico Public Library

Continuing her strong commitment to local libraries, State Senator Patty Ritchie has announced $50,000 in special funding to make much needed repairs and upgrades to the Mexico Public Library.
“These grants are vital to preserve older, historic libraries like ours and they allow us to add and enhance services for our many patrons. We greatly appreciate Senator Ritchie’s efforts to secure this funding and we are thankful for her continued support for local libraries,” said Julie Forbes, president of the Mexico Public Library.

Oswego Athletics Presents SEFA/United Way Hockey Night and Holiday Skate

The State Employees Federal Appeal committee has once again teamed up with Oswego State Athletics to hold the annual canned food and toy drive and holiday skate events. On Friday and Saturday, canned goods and toys will be collected at both the men’s and women’s hockey games. The women take on Potsdam Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. The men play in a SUNYAC faceoff against Brockport 7 p.m. on Friday.

Magnanimous Women Offer Donation To Animal Shelter

Theresa Makin and Terry Todd recently spearheaded the Paws-of-Plenty Harvest Dinner at the Ancient Order Of Hibernians. All proceeds benefited the Animal Shelter in order to pay for medical equipment for an on-site surgical suite. It will save the Animal Control Department money and help alleviate the animal over-population issues the Port City and surrounding areas are facing, they said.
