Firefighter Injured In Liberty Street Blaze

At 11:25 a.m. today (November 7), the Oswego Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 126 Liberty St. Two occupants of the residence escaped on their own and were evaluated at the scene. One firefighter suffered a lower extremity injury and was transported to Oswego Hospital. The home suffered extensive damage throughout.

Fulton Woman Faces Drug Charges

A search warrant was conducted on the residence of Helen Ann Holbrook-Mace, 52, of Fulton, following an investigation by the Oswego County Drug Task Force and the Fulton City Police Department. The search warrant resulted in the discovery of more than an eighth of an ounce of cocaine, two different types of unlawfully possessed prescription medications, packaging, scales and a small amount of marihuana, according to police.

Light Up Oswego, Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony Set November 29

After a day of feasting with family and friends, Oswego is planning a new way to kick off the holiday season. Light Up Oswego, a new event to take place on November 29, is being planned by local community members in cooperation with the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau. This is a free family event meant to encourage everyone to get out and enjoy the holiday season together as a community.

Tree Program Branches Out In Oswego

At This week’s Administrative Services Committee meeting councilors gave a favorable recommendation to a plan to restore the Port City’s tree canopy. Phil MacArthur from the Tree Advisory Board requested authorization to accept a donation of 100 trees, purchased under an ORA grant, to be planted by the Tree Stewards organization. “This is part of an experiment suggested a year ago, to try buying small cheap trees and see how well they grow,” MacAuthur said.

Architects For Sheldon Hall Renewal Win Award

Architects working with SUNY Oswego on the 2011-13 exterior renewal of century-old Sheldon Hall recently earned a top design award for historic preservation from the American Institute of Architects New York State. The Sheldon Hall exterior renewal project put the college’s Old Main, which opened in 1913, on course for its next 100 years.
