Political newcomer Pat McLaughlin (Dem – WTR) is looking to unseat incumbent Mike Myers (Rep -Con – Ind) in the race for Oswego’s Second Ward council seat. The preliminary Election Board ballot tally for Oswego County Family Court Judge has local attorney James Eby, with 16,254 votes topping Lou Anne Rucynski Coleman’s 10,786.

The community is invited to come celebrate the gift of giving and assist families of middle school students. Oswego Middle School will hold a backpack program fundraiser at the school on November 13 from 5-7 p.m. called “Empty Bowls.” The backpack program will assist families who find themselves in need of some additional support during school breaks.

Members of the Common Council and public received an update Monday night as to the on-going project to save the Port City’s historic West Pierhead Lighthouse. Several hundred manhours of work have been performed on the Oswego landmark just this year. The restoration project will continue and hopefully in the near future, tours will be offered at the lighthouse.

Plans are under way for Trinity Catholic School’s 15th annual Grown-Up Spelling Bee. The event features teams of three spellers from area businesses, organizations and race teams.
The event will take place at the American Foundry on Friday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m.

Voters will seat two positions in Oswego County at the end of the day tomorrow (Nov. 4), one is unopposed and the other is a hot race with an age twist.

UPDATE: The fire investigation is still in the preliminary stages, but the fire does not appear to be suspicious at this time.
The Oswego Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire early Nov. 3 at 124 Erie St. One occupant was home at the time of the fire, just after 4 a.m., and was able to escape without injury. The home did have working smoke alarms that alerted the resident. No injuries were reported.
