While everyone gears up to enjoy the warm weather, the Oswego County Health Department wants people to enjoy the season and maximize the health benefits of swimming by promoting healthy and safe swimming.
A Fulton teenager was killed in the two-vehicle crash. Two other Fulton teens and a teen from Oswego were injured. The investigation is continuing.
The State University of New York Board of Trustees today (June 17) unanimously approved naming the Campus Center complex at SUNY Oswego after the late Nunzio and Lorraine Marano. The SUNY Oswego College Council on June 6 approved honoring the Maranos with a named facility in recognition of Lorraine Marano’s generous community spirit and $7.5 million gift to the college, the largest private donation in the college’s 153-year history.
On Sunday, State Police in Fulton responded to a fatal crash that occurred at approximately 11:47 a.m. at the intersection of State Route 3 and State Route 264 in the town of Palermo. Raymond Fedeli was pronounced deceased at Oswego Hospital. Barbara Fedeli was transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for non-life threatening injuries. The investigation is continuing.
The Friends of the Oswego City Historian met recently to offer congratulations to newly appointed historian Mark Slosek, and to thank historian emeritus Lou Iorizzo for his valuable contributions during his tenure as Oswego City Historian. The group reviewed and discussed updates to the website, and brainstormed a list of types of articles about Oswego’s history that would be of interest to the public.
At its meeting Monday night, the Physical Services Committee considered a resolution that would prevent the destructive revelry that occurred at Sheldon Beach during Harborfest 2013 from happening again next month. Councilor Michael Todd requested discussion regarding closing Sheldon Beach during Harborfest. That type of behavior shouldn’t be allowed there, he said, adding that the city’s police department and emergency services are already stretched thin during the end of July festival.
The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau announces its 2014 schedule for the Traveling Arts in the Parks series. Each event is free and open to the public. Joe Trionfero will kick off the 2014 season with his popular “Show of Love” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 18 at East Park on East Bridge Street in the city of Oswego.
The Oswego High School Top 100 students were honored for the twenty-fifth consecutive year. For a quarter of a century, the Oswego Rotary Club has presented recognition to the Oswego High School academic elite. Nearly 400 people packed the Oswego High School Dining Hall for the annual “Top 100” dinner.
In an effort to help protect people in Central New York from the deadly EEE virus, State Senator Patty Ritchie has teamed up with the Oswego County Department of Health and SUNY Oswego to create an educational video to teach the public about the dangers of EEE.
After a few tweaks to the ice cream machines this week Sweet Inspirations – Fulton’s drive-in ice cream and food joint, which hosts the original Saturday cruise night – will be open again for business. “They’re coming on Monday to get the ice cream machines up and running,” new owner Kevin Niver told Oswego County Today on Sunday (June 15.) “We hope to have a soft opening this weekend, serving ice cream for the first few weeks until we get everyone up and trained.”
