The Safe Haven Museum and Education Center is proud to announce that the 70th reunion of the Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter will take place from June 19 through 22. On Aug. 5, 1944, 982 refugees who survived Nazi reign during World War II arrived at Fort Ontario in Oswego. They were allowed into the country as “guests” of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
Memorial Day is sacred to all veterans and families of veterans, according to George Hoffman, the master of ceremonies. “We owe it to our fallen heroes to pause from our routine so that we may respectfully honor their lives and sacrifices for liberty and freedom,” he said. “Our defenders are ordinary Americans performing extraordinary deeds,” he added.
State Police in Fulton are investigating a one-vehicle, fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Sunday (May 25) at approximately 8:11p.m. The collision occurred on Hall Road in the town of Oswego, approximately one half mile east of Chapel Road.

For the past year, the senator has pushed members of the conference committee that were drafting the final bill language to include these provisions in the bill. “With the bulk of business that we already have under our belt, if you will, we were able now to give the workforce a five-year picture to what the rates and benefits are going to look like through the end of 2019,” the Oswego plant manager said. “In that we can confirm what their annual pay raise is going to be starting the first of January next year. They’re going to get a three percent pay raise through the end of 2019, each year.”
Due to emergency sewer repair work, the intersection of West First and Seneca streets will be closed to all traffic on May 27. All northbound traffic will be open on May 28. All normal traffic will resume on May 29.

Councilor Eric VanBuren announced plans for a cooperative venture between the city and the Oswego City School District called “Grow Out.” The program will grow a variety of trees that, when large enough, will be replanted around the city to restore Oswego’s tree canopy.
