Safe Haven Museum Hosts 70th Reunion June 19-22

The Safe Haven Museum and Education Center is proud to announce that the 70th reunion of the Fort Ontario Emergency Refugee Shelter will take place from June 19 through 22. On Aug. 5, 1944, 982 refugees who survived Nazi reign during World War II arrived at Fort Ontario in Oswego. They were allowed into the country as “guests” of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The Port City Pauses To Say ‘Thank You’ To Its Fallen Heroes

Memorial Day is sacred to all veterans and families of veterans, according to George Hoffman, the master of ceremonies. “We owe it to our fallen heroes to pause from our routine so that we may respectfully honor their lives and sacrifices for liberty and freedom,” he said. “Our defenders are ordinary Americans performing extraordinary deeds,” he added.

Schumer Water Resources Bill Heads To President’s Desk

For the past year, the senator has pushed members of the conference committee that were drafting the final bill language to include these provisions in the bill. Schumer explained that the inclusion of these two provisions is a major victory for all of Upstate New York because it will prioritize dredging projects in Buffalo, Rochester and Oswego over the long-term that will make those harbors easier to navigate, and it will help make dams – and the communities near them – safer.

Novelis Announces Five-Year Financial Stability Plan

“With the bulk of business that we already have under our belt, if you will, we were able now to give the workforce a five-year picture to what the rates and benefits are going to look like through the end of 2019,” the Oswego plant manager said. “In that we can confirm what their annual pay raise is going to be starting the first of January next year. They’re going to get a three percent pay raise through the end of 2019, each year.”
