Fulton Officials Proclaim Police Week

To honor the men and women who safeguard the rights and freedoms of citizens across the nation Thursday (May 15) has been designated by Congress and the President of the United States as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the city of Fulton Common Council passed a proclamation last week acknowledging its participation .
“National Police Week has two distinct purposes,” Alan DeLine, of Fulton’s Fire and Police Commission explained. “The first one is to honor the police officers who have made the supreme sacrifice – to serve as a remembrance of that fact. The second purpose is to celebrate all police officers and what they do on a day by day basis.”

University Police Charge Florida Man With DWI, Marijuana Possession

SUNY Oswego University Police charged a 26-year-old Florida man early Sunday with a felony count of marijuana possession as well as a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated and several infractions. Officers said Ryan R. Russell of Crocker Lake Boulevard in Sarasota, Florida, was driving erratically on Route 104 near the college entrance shortly before 3 a.m. Sunday.

Warm Weather Brings Increased Risk of Lyme Disease

Each year, more than 30,000 cases of Lyme disease are reported to the Centers for Disease Control, making it the most commonly reported tick-borne illness in the United States. Lyme disease can cause serious health problems if not diagnosed early and treated properly. In Oswego County, the Oswego County Health Department reported 76 cases of Lyme disease last year. Already this year, there have been four cases confirmed.

Mock Event Sends Real Message To OHS Students Just In Time For Prom Season

Members of the Oswego High School junior class sat through a gruesome presentation Friday to help stop them from making what could be a fatal mistake on prom night, graduation day and beyond. A mock drunk driving accident was staged in the school parking lot. Several teens were “injured;” one young man was partially ejected from his vehicle, his severed arm was on the ground in front of the wrecked vehicle.

Oswego college student injured, air-lifted to hospital

Emergency crews responded to the scene of a pedestrian-vehicle accident on West Bridge Street near Hillside Ave. Friday night. A SUNY Oswego student was reportedly hit by a trolley bus; then transported to a waiting helicopter in Fulton and flown to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse. The victim reportedly suffered multiple injuries.

Oswego City Police and University Police at SUNY Oswego are investigating three suspected heroin overdoses that occurred overnight, two in the city of Oswego and one on the college campus. All three victims are students at SUNY Oswego. The campus victim died, authorities said.

Decision: Fulton Sewer Plant Annexation Is In Overall Public Interest

The city of Fulton annexation of the town of Granby property and city’s sewer treatment facility “is in the overall public interest” according to the Supreme Court Appellate Division decision announced Friday. “We therefore confirm the report of the Referees, grant the petition and grant judgment in favor of (the city of Fulton) adjudging that the proposed annexation is in the overall public interest” according to the decision.

Troopers Investigate suspicious incident in town of Constantia

The New York State Police in Pulaski is currently investigating a suspicious incident that occurred on May 8, along County Route 17 in the town of Constantia between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. A juvenile male was walking on the side of the roadway when he was approached by a black, four-door car having dark tinted windows.
