On Thursday, EffectiveNY founder Bill Samuels announced the appointment of John T. Sullivan Jr., a former New York Deputy Medicaid Inspector General and former mayor of Oswego, as upstate director.
The issue of what funding the city provides for the Greater Oswego-Fulton Chamber of Commerce’s events returned to the floor this week at the Administrative Services Committee. The councilors approved moving ahead with funding for the events the chamber facilitates in the Port City.
Faculty and staff at Cayuga Community College have united to form a new organization called United Cayuga Professionals to facilitate transparency and clear communications within the college, while working on positive initiatives to bolster the work and learning environment for all on both of the college’s campuses.
The cases for the three teenaged boys who were arrested in connection with the murder of a town of Granby man were waived from town court to Oswego County Court where, if the case goes to trial, they would be treated as adults. According to New York State Criminal Procedure Law, a youth 16-18 years old charged with a Class A-I or A-II felony may not be treated as a youthful offender.

County leaders strongly support efforts by all levels of government to stabilize and reduce property taxes in New York State. The New York State Association of Counties (NYSAC) has put together a proposal for not only freezing, but lowering property taxes throughout the state.
On Tuesday March 4, at approximately 6:10 p.m. investigators with the Oswego City Police Department’s Anti-Crime Team (ACT) stopped a red colored Chevrolet Monte Carlo on East Ninth Street just north of East Bridge Street. The vehicle was stopped as a result of an investigation into illegal methamphetamine production within the city of Oswego. As a result, a Fulton man was charged with Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine in the third degree.
Recognizing Oswego County has announced the selection of Thomas Abbott, owner of Abbott’s Tae Kwon Do in Mexico, as the Community Champion for February. This month’s theme was indoor recreation/physical activity.
