Trash Packer Gets Green Light in Fulton

The Fulton Municipal Building A new garbage packer and increased rental fees for parks and facilities punctuated business during Tuesday’s Fulton City Common Council meeting.
Council President Dan Knopp advised the council the $120,000 equipment purchase would not affect the general budget.
Barry Ostrander, superintendent of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department explained that the new rates would not affect anyone who has already scheduled programs or facility rental with the city.

Fireworks Funding For Fourth Fizzles?

Tough economic times could cause the end of the fireworks display during the Independance Day Celebration, and possibly other facets of the chamber's programs this year. At Tuesday’s Administrative Services Committee meeting, councilors discussed possible cuts to funding the city provides the chamber to run various events during the year. One item on the chopping block could be around $8,000 for the Independence Day Celebration’s fireworks display. Since not all councilors were present at the meeting, the resolution was tabled until all councilors could be in attendance.

Crash in Oswego County Involving a State Police Vehicle

State Police in Pulaski are investigating a crash that occurred at approximately 8:45 a.m. Feb. 18, on County Route 41 in the town of Richland. The trooper, a seven-year veteran of the State Police and assigned to the Pulaski Barracks was transported to Pulaski Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries. The other driver and her passenger were not injured in the crash.

In 1792, after the Revolutionary War and long before he began his term as the nation’s fourth President, James Madison wrote, “War contains so much folly, as well as wickedness, that much is to be hoped from the progress of reason; and if any thing is to be hoped, every thing ought to be tried.”  Ironically, although it is unlikely that he anticipated another war with Great Britain, Madison’s term encompassed the War of 1812, also known as the Second War for Independence.
