Superintendent Ben Halsey handed out “a first blush” of the school district budget for the coming academic year. “We give it to you now so that you can take it with you and take the time you need to peruse it, make notes in the margins, generate questions and have a discussion,” the superintendent told the board.

Police say they followed the suspects’ footprints in the snow to their location and arrested them. The two teens are facing felony robbery and conspiracy charges. The investigation is continuing.

Work will include a fully accessible Waterman Theatre with modern seating, lighting, sound and multimedia; a two-story music rehearsal hall doubling as a new venue for small performances; facade improvements that include two inviting new entrances at the building’s eastern corners, leading to a spacious and welcoming lobby; an expanded box office, new elevator, larger and more flexible Tyler Art Gallery; a digital media lab and a recording studio; and a host of environmentally friendly improvements to the building’s heating, ventilation, air conditioning and other systems, from lower level to roof.

UPDATED Students at the Fitzhugh Park Elementary School were evacuated from the building for a short time this morning as smoke was reported on the second floor. There were no injuries. Officials have allowed the students to return to their classrooms.

The Governor anticipates $2 billion will be available surplus in the state’s fiscal years 2016-17. The first $1 billion is earmarked for a two-year “property tax freeze,” accomplished by sending rebate checks to homeowners in each tax jurisdiction that complies with the two-percent real property tax cap. Many counties and the New York State Association of Counties are proposing an alternative method to provide more property tax reduction to New Yorkers.

At 3:09 p.m. today (Feb. 13), the Oswego Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 328 Duer St. A neighbor called 911 and alerted the resident that there were flames coming from the rear of the home. Crews confirmed that two people were home at the time of the fire, but had exited safely without injury.
