Memories of 31 Vets from CNY, NNY Become Part of State Museum Archives

The wartime memories of 31 World War II veterans from Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties, who served aboard Navy ships and battled cold and disease as well as enemy fighters as front line infantry and marines, are being added to the state’s permanent archives through Senator Patty Ritchie’s “Veteran’s Voices” program.

Parents of Special Children Host AIM High Night

Maddy Rupert enjoying some swing time in the new Sensory Room, sponsored by the Oswego County Autism Task ForceParents of Special Children, Inc., held its second annual AIM High night and open house last month at its new office location. The agency, located in Fulton, recently moved into a larger suite to accommodate its growing programs. PSC is a non-profit agency, funded through the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, Family Support Services, private donations and local fundraising events.

Fulton Woman Charged with Felony Assault After Baseball Bat Attack

On Friday, Michelle C. Capozzi, 43 of North Fifth Street in Fulton, was arrested following an investigation into a domestic dispute that occurred on November 2 between Capozzi and her boyfriend. Capozzi was charged with second-degree assault and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both class D felonies.

Oswego County Drug Task Force Announces Arrest of Two on Drug Charges

Marta Jean Nolen, 31, of Hannibal, and Matthew Alan Merrill, 28, of Fulton, were arrested this week following a joint investigation by the Oswego County Drug Task Force, the Fulton City Police Department, and the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Department. A search warrant was conducted on March 20, 2013, and resulted in the recovery of a large amount of heroin.

Tradition of Excellence Continues for OHS Buccaneer Bulletin

Award winning performances and evaluations have become a tradition for the staff of the Oswego High School Buccaneer Bulletin. Once again, the Buccaneer Bulletin received a gold medal for being the best all around school newspaper in New York State. Each fall, the students and advisors joined with other scholastic journalists and photographers for the annual Empire State School Press Association gathering at Syracuse University.

Public Hearing Held On Charter School Proposal

The second public hearing regarding the proposed Renaissance Charter School drew a small gathering Thursday afternoon in the second floor conference room at the Oswego Education Center. Two of the three speakers were in favor of moving forward to provide an alternative to public schools. The district’s interim superintendent pointed out that studies have shown that charter schools’ achievement is “indistinguishable” from that of traditional public schools. Nationally, he added, charter schools have a dismal record of success.

Fulton Council Gets Into Holiday Spirit

Mayor Woodward proclaimed Oswego County Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Fund drive season would run November 15 through December 24 this year. The mayor added that he will be one of the volunteer bell ringers. Alderman Alan Emerich reminded everyone to remember to be kind to those in the community and show gratitude in action by extending a hand to those less fortunate.
