This Saturday night the 110-member Oswego High School Marching Buccaneers will debut the “Amelia Earhart: The Legacy of Courage” as the New York State Field Band Conference Association season commences. The Marching Bucs performed their new show this past Wednesday evening before family, friends and fellow students. Band Director Scott Ciesla is ready to take his band to East Syracuse-Minoa this Saturday for a show that begins at 6 p.m.
The city of Oswego has been required to separate the “Combined Sewer System” in certain portions of the west side of the city, as mandated in a Consent Decree with the Federal Environmental Protection Agency and New York Department of Environmental Conservation. Today (Sept. 5), between the hours of 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., while this work was ongoing, the city’s water system lost pressure due to the construction work associated with the Consent Decree. The city of Oswego is, therefore, issuing a BOIL WATER ADVISORY
Eight years ago one misstep resulted in a life-changing event, a fall from a 13-foot balcony left Greg Callen with paralysis of the lower half of his body. While the next a couple years brought periods of depression and soul searching Greg eventually began working on living independently. He moved to Syracuse. UPDATE: Smooth Opening for New School Year; Some Transportation Concerns Raised Opening day of the 2013–14 school year resembled a large family reunion all across the district. Students exchanged hugs and high-fives at all the schools as friends were reunited after the hot and humid summer. They compared notes about their new teachers and classes as well as about how they spent their summer.
The NYS Department of Health has notified the Oswego County Health Department that more evidence of the Eastern equine encephalitis and West Nile viruses was found in collections taken August 28. Four mosquito pools tested positive for EEE. They include one in the town of New Haven, two in the Toad Harbor Swamp area of West Monroe, and one near the village of Central Square. Two pools near the village of Central Square tested positive for WNV.
The meeting was the result of a request made by Interim Superintendent of Schools Gary Mix as he has asked the board to gather to approve the appointment of a new school business administrator.
Not that many years ago, scores of anglers stood shoulder to shoulder in the Oswego River reeling in lunkers. Over the years, due to several factors, fishing in the Oswego River has petered out considerably. Now, city officials are looking for ways to revive the sport.
State Police in Fulton are investigating a personal injury accident that occurred at approximately 10:15 a.m. Tuesday on State Route 3 in the town of Hannibal. The driver was taken to Oswego Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, troopers said.
