Oswego Board of Education Welcomes New Member

The Oswego City School District Board of Education will once again have seven active members. On September 10 Michael McLaughlin will take the oath of office to serve for the remainder of the 2013-14 school year as a member of the board of education. McLaughlin will be sworn in at the committee and regular meeting of the board at the Oswego High School Anthony J. Murabito Media Center.

SUNY Oswego extends library privileges to county’s secondary educators, students

Penfield Library at SUNY Oswego is extending borrowing privileges to Oswego County K-12 educators and high school students. Complimentary library cards will give them access to college-level research resources, services and collections. All county educators are welcome to apply for a complimentary library card by visiting the library’s front desk.

SUNY Oswego graduate students to mentor middle-schoolers in STEM

The college will receive $139,500 over two years to pilot the program at Oswego Middle School, part of a $2.95 million grant the National Science Foundation awarded to the SUNY system, the New York Academy of Sciences and SUNY Empire State College to bring to scale a mentoring program that has been successful downstate.

Oswego’s Big Picture School Ready To Open In New Site

But the BUC Junior-Senior High School is ready to welcome nearly six dozen students in September. On Wednesday, many of the students and their parents toured the classrooms located in the lower level of the Education Center. The school is based on the three founding principles of creating rigor in instruction, relevance to real world learning, and crafting relationships to the community.

More Evidence of West Nile Virus Found

The New York State Department of Health has notified the Oswego County Health Department that more evidence of the West Nile virus (WNV) was found in two different mosquito pools collected on August 21. One of the pools is located in the town of Constantia and it is the first positive finding in that township. The second pool is in the town of New Haven where the WNV has been found earlier this summer.
