Deputies report that 23-year-old Justin N. Lamb of Oswego was operating a 2013 Suzuki motorcycle on County Route 7 in a southerly direction when he left the roadway in a westerly direction striking a mailbox and a near by residence.
Oswego County contracted with Duflo Spray-Chemical Inc. from Lowville to conduct the aerial spraying of about 10,000 acres of the Toad Harbor / Big Bay Swamp on the north shore of Oneida Lake to reduce the spread of the Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus, which is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito.
A Taste NY Trail will guide visitors throughout the fairgrounds as they taste, sample and judge a variety of New York made products from wine and beer to maple and dairy to fresh fruits and vegetables. Leon’s Farm Market and Ashley Lynn Winery out of New Haven will be actively involved throughout the “Taste NY” experience.
The Common Council this week approved moving forward with the Hamilton Park Project. Councilor Eric VanBuren had requested approval for the project. It will include a new PlaySense Design, Swing Frame with bucket seats and a Saddle Spinner.
As the new school year inches closer, work continues to get a new school site ready for nearly four dozen students. The Oswego school board wants to maintain and enhance the alternative “big picture school” (The Buc), which is currently housed in the portables at Oswego Middle School. Work is under way at the Ed Center as crews began shifting offices earlier today (Aug. 16).
The Oswego County Drug Task Force has announced additional arrests as a result of joint investigations conducted after search warrants were executed by the Oswego County Drug Task Force, the Fulton City Police Department and the New York State Police.
The Oswego County Health Department plans to conduct aerial spraying of the Big Bay / Toad Harbor Swamp on the north shore of Oneida Lake Saturday evening, Aug. 17. The rain date is Sunday, Aug. 18. The aerial spray will begin after 7 p.m. If the spraying is postponed due to weather conditions, residents will be notified through the news media and information will be posted on the Oswego County Web site at www.oswegocounty.com
UPDATE 12:10 PM: Three suspects were taken into custody last evening as a result of an investigation into, and the subsequent execution of a search warrant of, a suspected methamphetamine lab located at 116 East Eleventh Street in the city of Oswego.
The New York State DEC awarded the city an Urban and Community Forest Grant of $25,000 for a tree inventory of the Port City. If we have an epidemic or natural disaster and a large percentage of our canopy gets removed, we’d be able to get money to replace and take down trees, explained June MacArthur, one of Oswego’s tree stewards. “Without an inventory, we get nothing toward our canopy,” she pointed out.
