It wasn’t so much the hot humid days that pushed July’s average temperature above normal. It was the sultry nights, according to Bill Gregway, local observer for the national Weather Service. The average temperature last month was 73.0 degrees. That’s 2.2 degrees higher than average, Gregway said. One overnight low came in at 77 degrees.
SUNY Oswego has become the latest college accepted for the CFA Institute’s University Recognition Program, signifying its School of Business’ bachelor of science degree in finance strongly positions graduates to obtain the rigorous and prestigious professional Chartered Financial Analyst credential.
BREAKING NEWS: Today (Aug. 1), members of the Oswego City Police Department, along with assistance from other area local law enforcement agencies, arrested five suspects as a result of an on-going, multi-agency investigation. The arrests were the result of an investigation initiated by the Oswego City Police Department into the trafficking of illegal drugs (cocaine) beginning in the early months of 2011.
Held at Minetto’s River View Park and town hall, along the Oswego River and Canal, this free family event has a bit of something for everyone. Music and food with free craft making, face painting and ice cream for children will be offered. Craft vendors will be located by the town hall with wares from jewelry to hand made pottery.

A 19-year-old Hastings woman and her juvenile passenger died Wednesday evening in a one-car crash. The accident is still under investigation.
Despite the closing of several Friendly’s restaurants around the Central New York area, the restaurant located in Oswego just completed a positive ownership transition. The restaurant has been located in Oswego for more than 40 years. Until recently, it was a franchised restaurant.
The Friendly’s corporation saw it fit to buy the restaurant back.
Jiancheng Huang, Public Health Director of the Oswego County Health Department, announced this morning (July 31) that the New York State Department of Health found evidence of West Nile virus in mosquitoes collected July 24 near the village of Central Square.
SUNY Oswego President Deborah F. Stanley has appointed Pamela D. Caraccioli as deputy to the president for external partnerships and economic development.
