The New York State Police in Pulaski investigated a two-vehicle minor personal injury accident that occurred on Interstate 81 northbound in the town of Richland at approximately noon June 21. Both drivers were taken to Upstate Hospital, Syracuse, and treated for minor injuries. One of them was charged with DWI.
Paddlers and spectators have a chance to win a new Perception Prodigy 12 kayak valued at $700 at the Oswego “Rock the Locks” Paddlefest on June 29. The 12-foot Prodigy weighs 53 pounds and is designed for user-friendly comfort with a water-tight storage compartment to carry gear.
At its meeting this week, the Administrative Services Committee recommended turning a “lake” back into a “pond.” Tony Leotta, city engineer, and Mike Smith, DPW commissioner, requested the purchasing agent seek proposals to clean out the culvert, beneath the approach to East Seneca Street Bridge to correct the flooding problem. The existing 24-inch diameter culvert under the easterly approach to the East Seneca Street bridge is plugged and is creating a large “lake” on the property between Route 104 and East Seneca Street adjacent to the CSX Railroad, Leotta said.

Gale Waas has been doing what she loves for more than 35 years. She and her husband now own Happy Tails K-9 Training and Agility Center at 1500 County Route 8 in Fulton. Waas’ passion for animals doesn’t end when she locks the gate to the training area. On Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m. at Happy Tails, Waas and the local SPCA will be hosting a Pet Adoption Day.
The event is an international competition for high school students who’ve completed projects to solve real-world environmental issues. This year’s Olympiad is the largest in the event’s short history with more than 550 participants from across the United States and the world. The awards ceremony is open to the public and is scheduled for Friday at 1:15 p.m. in the Campus Center Arena.
Board members unanimously agreed to a contract with the Association of Administrative Personnel. The contract will expire on June 30, 2016 and provides for a 2% annual raise in salary. The board faced a full agenda during its final 2012-013 regular meeting. Under the “Board of Education” portion the canvass for the May budget vote and elections was approved and the board accepted the meeting schedule for 2013-2014. The “Instruction” area of the agenda passed unanimously. Approval was given for the continuation of the First Robotics Club, Sailing Club and Weight Lifting Club at the Oswego High School.

On Wednesday, hundreds of people all over Oswego County participated in the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station Unit 2 emergency preparedness exercise. The event involved players from Oswego County, Onondaga County, the State of New York, and the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, operated by Constellation Energy Nuclear Group.
Summer arrives at 1:04 a.m. on Friday. It leaves behind a rather average spring. The average temperature was nearly 2 degrees warmer than average. While the area has been stymied recently by heavy rainfall, for the spring the total was 2.22 inches below average.
