Lanigan student rallies his school to help a family in need
Lanigan Elementary School fourth grade student Noah Horning watched as seven fire departments worked to save his neighbor’s home earlier this year. The family escaped the fire safely, but lost everything. Noah knew there was something he could do to help the family and he knew just who could help him – the students and staff at his school.
Local Agencies Working to Address Homelessness
A one-day count of homeless individuals in Oswego County, the Point in Time survey, mandated by the federal department of Housing and Urban Development, is a concise effort area human service agencies that serves to raise the awareness of homelessness and helps to compile an approximate number of those who are homeless, or are housing vulnerable, in Oswego County.
HUD Awards More Than $2 Million In Housing Counseling Grants
Two agencies in Oswego County will share in the funding. The City of Fulton Community Development Agency is in line to receive $16,690. And, the Oswego Housing Development Council, in Parish, will receive $16,321. Both provide housing assistance.

Fulton Common Council Unanimously Approves Zoning Change
The change will allow houses in the M-1 manufacturing zone that have been vacant for more than one year to once again be used as residential property. Prior to the approval of the resolution, those homes would have lost their residential status. Proponents say this will hopefully entice more people buy homes in Fulton.
Gary Mix Chosen as Oswego Interim Superintendent of Schools
Gary Mix has been appointed as the Oswego City School District Interim Superintendent of Schools. On Tuesday night, the Oswego City School District Board of Education unanimously approved the appointment. Mix will commence his duties in the Oswego City School District on Tuesday, July 2. The board will pay Mix $2,400 per week during the months of July and August and $3,000 per week during the months of September through December.
Former WRVO General Manager John Krauss dies
Former WRVO general manager and on-air host John Krauss died Monday June 17, 2013, in Oswego. Krauss was one of the longest serving station administrators in public broadcasting having held various managerial titles for more than 40 years, 14 as general manager. He retired in 2010. Krauss was 64.
French and Indians Return to Fort Ontario June 29, 30
The sights, sounds, and smells of camp and garrison life during the French and Indian War will greet visitors to Fort Ontario State Historic Site in Oswego the weekend of June 29 and 30. Encampments of British, French and Native American troops and warriors who fought each other at Oswego during the 1750s will be displayed from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 29 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 30.
