Cause Of NMP 2 Shutdown Probed
In accordance with procedures, operators at Nine Mile Point Unit 2 took prompt and appropriate action Thursday to commence a safe, controlled shutdown of the unit. Unit 2 remains in a safe condition and the event did not pose a risk to the public.
Texting Tickets Triple After Tough Law Begins
The number of tickets handed out for texting while driving tripled in Oswego County in the year since the state toughened the penalties. A year ago, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law a bill that made texting while driving a primary offense. It meant that police could pull a driver over if they saw the driver sending a text message.
Funding To Relieve Jail Over-Crowding Sparks Debate
The Oswego County Legislature today (July 12) approved transferring funds to cover the cost of boarding OCJ inmates in other county facilities. The resolution to transfer an additional $200,000 prompted a lengthy debate about how to correct the problem without continually having to spend more money on it. At some point, one legislator said, the county is going to have to tell the state: enough is enough.
Driver Charged Following Chase From Volney Into Fulton
The charges stem from a police pursuit that began at the railroad crossing on State Route 481, north of VanBuren Drive in the town of Volney and went south on 481 into the city of Fulton where the vehicle the suspect was driving turned east onto VanBuren Street then made a sharp turn north onto North Sixth Street where he finally parked the vehicle.

Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident Investigated
UPDATE #2 The Sheriff’s Office has tentatively identified the victim as a North Carolina resident.
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash in West Monroe. The accident happened on County Route 11 near Smith Road. Identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Integrated Community Planning Has A New Location
Integrated Community Planning is helping bring an Oswego historical landmark back to life. ICP has relocated its offices into the Stevedore Lofts, 317 W. First St. (Suite 111). The public is invited to the official open house on July 19 from noon to 7 p.m.
