Mayor Tom Gillen recognized the efforts of a 10-year-old Oswego girl at a recent meeting of the Common Council. Madison Baum was honored at the beginning of the meeting by Mayor Gillen and Councilor Eric VanBuren for collecting cans to raise money for the SPCA.
Selected from a field of standout candidates, BOCES Board of Education President John Shelmidine said, “Mr. Todd brings a fresh sense of excitement and energy to our organization and I am excited about working closely with him as we move forward with our capital improvement project.”

There might be some pesky lingering showers today. But, it’s getting warmer
The city of Fulton Tuesday began the process of taking land away from the town of Granby that Granby wasn’t planning to give up. The land in question is the city’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, which sits along Route 48 in Granby, just north of the city line.
“We don’t consent to anything. Nothing,” said Granby Supervisor Ed Williamson. But the city sees a chance to save money and help attract a buyer for the Birds-Eye plant.
UPDATE: Police ID victims; alcohol and speed likely factors in crash Five people occupied the vehicle including the operator. Three of the occupants were confirmed deceased at the scene. The two remaining occupants were transported to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse, NY.
