The candidates for Hannibal Board of Education agreed far more than they disagreed at their recent joint appearance.
The only major point of difference came when one candidate said Hannibal probably will have to merge with a neighboring school district in the next three years. The other candidates didn’t endorse that point of view, but said that the next few years will be very difficult.
Throughout the ceremony, the curtains hiding the guest of honor continued to billow, partially revealing the larger-than-life figure. It was as if Dr. Mary Edwards Walker was telling the speakers who paraded to the podium Saturday morning in front of the Oswego Town Hall to hurry up and introduce her.
Two local business were honored last Friday with SBA Small Business Excellence Awards at the DoubleTree Hotel in East Syracuse. The U.S. Small Business Administration and the New York Business Development Corporation hosted the 14th annual luncheon to recognize the achievements of local small businesses.
On May 9, members from the Oswego City Police Department Criminal Investigative Division responded to a 911 dispatch for a larceny in progress at Bosco & Geers. The suspect was also charged in connection with an earlier incident.

At 8:35 a.m. on Thursday, Zachary J. Coe, 18, of 824 Baldwin Road, Fulton was arrested for forcible touching, endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree unlawful imprisonment. He allegedly held the victim down by restraining their hands and touched the victim’s breast.
At 8:50 a.m. on Thursday, Dale L. Fiske, 31, of Burdick Drive Bldg. 33, Hastings, was arrested for second-degree menacing, a class A misdemeanor. He allegedly pointed a rifle at the victim during a verbal argument.
