Oswego Council Squashes Signage Proposal
The proposed amendment to the city charter would have restricted illuminated and flashing signs in the Port City. A revised proposal might be headed back to the committee level for further discussion.
Monday’s Temperature Set High Record
The temperature peaked at 93 degrees, breaking the old mark of 90 degrees. The Port City received about 0.14-inch of rain between 5 and 5:30 p.m. However, the city’s Tree Stewards encourage residents to water any newly planted trees nears their homes.
Planning Board Gets First Look at Next Home of Cayuga Community College
Cayuga Community College has a plan to turn 50,000 square feet of grocery store space into 80,000 square feet of learning space.
Even as the college’s plan won approval Monday night from the Fulton Planning Commission, college officials indicated that planners would be seeing more plans eventually as the school grows quickly in its new home.
Accident Kills a Woman in Granby
A woman from Pennsylvania died Monday morning in a car crash along Route 48 in Granby, according to State Police.

Public Hearing Tonight On Possible Changes To Signs In Oswego
The general public, and business community, will have a chance tonight to weigh in on the possible amendment at 7:10 p.m. Changes would include replacing “flashing” with “Digital and Electronic” in the title and adding revolving signs to the list of those prohibited (“unless necessary for public safety or traffic control”)
Owens to Hold District-Wide Telephone Town Hall Tuesday
In an ongoing effort to conduct an open discussion about the issues that affect Upstate New York, Congressman Bill Owens will hold a telephone town hall next Tuesday, July 12th. Beginning at 6:45 p.m., Owens will update callers about his work to create jobs in Upstate New York, and then take questions from constituents during the hour-long call.
IBEW Members Walk Picket Line At Nine Mile
Striking members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 97 have set up a picket line on County Route 1 at the intersection of Lakeview Road. At 12:01 a.m. today (July 9), the workers from Nine Mile Point Unit I and Unit II went on strike. Their jobs are now being done by Constellation Energy Nuclear Group managers.
