A nationwide crackdown on seat belt violations begins today. Oswego County Sheriff Reuel Todd says his deputies will be looking for you, if you don’t wear your seat belt while you drive.

A cluster of writers has scheduled a workshop at Camp Hollis on the Lake Ontario’s shore in Oswego Town for June 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will be hosted and facilitated by Mary Slimmer, Jim Farfaglia and June MacArthur, the guest writer. The trio presented a well-received writers’ workshop at the camp last fall which prompted them to conduct another this spring.
Police say a car crossed the center line of Route 48 Friday afternoon and slammed into a motorcycle. The car ended up in the Oswego River. The driver and a passenger swam safely to dry land. But the driver of the motorcycle suffered serious injuries and had to be flown to a Syracuse hospital.

Starting today (May 20), National Grid and their contractors will be undertaking an extensive maintenance project on their transmission lines. National Grid will be using helicopters, contractor line crews and associated heavy equipment during the length of this project.

The governor feels very strongly that he was elected for three primary reasons, state Transportation Commissioner Joan McDonald said. They are get the economy up and running again, ethics reform and restoring the legacy of social reform. Passing an on-time state budget was a good start, she said.
