OSWEGO TOWN, NY – That’s write. They’re doing it again.
A cluster of writers has scheduled a workshop at Camp Hollis on the Lake Ontario’s shore in Oswego Town for June 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event will be hosted and facilitated by Mary Slimmer, Jim Farfaglia and June MacArthur, the guest writer.
The trio presented a well-received writers’ workshop at the camp last fall which prompted them to conduct another this spring.
According to Slimmer, participants will have the opportunity to express themselves through one or more of these activities:
- Capturing the beauty of nature through words
- Persuading others to consider different views
- Learning from each other as we share
- Learning something new from our workshops
- Creating prose or poetry from various writing prompts
- Collecting thoughts from memory to write memoirs
The second “Relaxation, Reflection and Writing” workshop will give participants the time to express themselves through their writing.
The camp is located at 40 Health Camp Road in the town of Oswego.
Participants should bring a bag lunch; and, of course, a pen and paper.
Please wear weather appropriate clothes.

Checks for $15 should be made out to Clearpath Life Coaching to cover the cost of use of the building, beverages and other materials.

“Jim and Mary asked me to do a workshop on something I didn’t even realize I did which is persuasive writing. According to a website on writing, ‘In persuasive or argumentative writing, we try to convince others to agree with our facts, share our values, accept our argument and conclusions and adopt our way of thinking.’ Much of my non-fiction writing is about something I believe passionately about and want to pass my viewpoint on to others,” MacArthur said.
“It’s the main reason I’ve always been a freelance writer and never been a full-time reporter. I always seem to have an opinion and find I can’t be objective when I interview someone who has a different opinion from me. I’ve always respected you folks who can,” she continued.
“I’ve often felt I’d love to work for an environmental magazine, but at my age I guess I’ve got to stick to free-lancing. My bones are too achy now to do the investigative work I’d have to do,” she added.
Over the years, MacArthur has written about many causes.
Recently, it has been mainly about the trees and the Oswego Tree Stewards.
