Ritchie Takes Oath of Office
Patty Ritchie (R-Heuvelton) took the oath of office minutes after midnight on New Year’s Day and became Oswego County’s representative in the State Senate.
Ritchie, the St. Lawrence County Clerk, narrowly beat incumbent Democrat Darrel Aubertine to claim the seat, part of an influx of Republicans to the Senate that helped the party reclaim control of the chamber.
Tipping Fee Increases at County Transfer Stations Begin Today
Oswego County recently increased the fees you will pay for leaving your trash and garbage at the county’s transfer stations. The new fees begin today.
An annual sticker to dump at any county transfer station costs $10 more. A punch card for 20 bags of trash is $2 higher. Tipping fees are up $5. It will not cost more to get rid of TVs or microwaves.
December 2010 Was Colder, Wetter Than Normal
The temperature last month was 2.6 degrees below normal and the precipitation was 1.12 inches higher than average. Snowfall, for the first time all winter, was higher than normal – but, we’re still nearly 6 inches below average for the winter.
In November, Oswego County GOP Chair Steps Down; New Ambulance Deal OK’d In December
In late November, Oswego County Clerk George Williams announced that he was stepping down as the Oswego County Republican Committee chairman. He had held the position since April 2003. His last day was Dec. 2. In December, the city and Oswego Town struck a new ambulance agreement.

At the end of September, The Port City and the operator of the Varick Hydroelectric Station launched an investigation into the water release that preceded four fishermen being swept down the Oswego River. Two of the men died. Safety measures are being considered as a result of the meetings.
