The final edition of RaiderNet Daily for the 2009-10 school year is a big edition — ten pages of news, commentary and features.  You’ll see who won academic awards, meet the winning Envirothon team, see the teachers who are retiring this year, and more.

Oswego County Today thanks the young men and women, along with advisor Len Senecal, who provided all of us with more than 150 editions of RaiderNet Daily this year.  It was an outstanding effort.

Hannibal Students Help Make 911 Maps More Accurate; ‘We’re Saving Lives’, Starting Careers

Natasha Waloven works on the GIS system as Patrick Sullivan looks  on.If you call 911, you want to know that the ambulance will pull into your driveway and not your neighbor’s, or the dirt driveway to your back lot.  For emergency responders, time lost can be lives lost.

The county needed people to place more than 60,000 pinpoints on its new aerial maps to make sure emergency responders pulled into the right driveways.

An accidental meeting led to Hannibal Central School’s GIS program, one of the few in the state, and a project that got kids involved in saving lives.

Born Learning Trail Matures

Artist William Mihalko creates the shape for the hopscotch game at  one of the activity areas along the Learning Trail.

The Success By 6 Born Learning Trail started to develop earlier this spring. On Tuesday, it began taking shape. The trail being constructed in Fulton’s Hulett Park, is one of only three in New York State. When completed, the trail will consist of 10 learning stations utilizing the surrounding environment to promote learning for youth five and under. The grand opening will take place later this month.

Scene Around Town: Having Fun In The Park

Fulton Planning to Ban Outdoor Use of Indoor Appliances

There’s nothing like having a cold beer handy at the fridge while you’re stretched out on the couch.  But if the couch and the fridge are on your front porch, that will soon be a no-no in the city of Fulton.  City lawmakers banned indoor furniture from outdoor porches a few years back.  Now they’re after refrigerators, washers and dryers.
