As Officer In Charge, Walther inspected her crew for the last time prior to being relieved of command by Orlando. It was also an opportunity for him to conduct a personnel inspection of those who will be in his new command.

Fulton, Oswego Councilors Share Ideas To Improve Their Cities

Fulton lawmakers shared the best idea they think they’ve had in a while — renovating homes seized for back taxes and selling them at market value to generate more money to fix up more homes.  Oswego lawmakers talked about their efforts to enforce housing codes in a city with lots and lots of college rentals and some notorious landlords.

It was the first time legislators from the sister cities had gotten together in one room in perhaps decades.

Fulton’s Board of Education picked its leaders for a new year and plunged into the routine work that faces a school board at its first meeting of the new work year.

Board President Robert Ireland remained in the post.  Former leader Robbin Griffin was selected Vice President.  Brian Hotaling was named the board’s Clerk.

Scene Around Town: Doggone Delicious

Brutus and his sister, Zoey, enjoy an ice cream sundae recently at West Second and Utica streets in the Port City.

The “Rover Sundae” is made specifically for four-legged patrons such as the two Pugs. It consists of vanilla ice cream with peanut butter swirls and crushed doggie biscuits sprinkled on top.

The canines’ human companions settled for more traditional fare.

Fulton Construction Project On Schedule

The Fulton school district’s $23.6 million construction project is back on track.

After a minor delay caused by the accidental destruction of asbestos-laden floor tiles in the auditorium of the Education Center building, the pace of work has picked up and Jerry Seguin, the district’s point man on the big project, told the Board of Education Tuesday night that things are generally “right on schedule”.

Do This Tonight: Swingin’ Big Band at Breitbeck

Here’s something to do on a Wednesday night:  Head for Breitbeck Park in Oswego to take in the sounds of the Oswego County Summer Stage Band.

The 17-piece big band led by Stan Gosek will blow through a handful of classic swing tunes, such as Count Basie’s “Jumpin’ At The Woodside”, Glenn Miller’s “In The Mood”, “Satin Doll”, “Minnie The Moocher”, “Harlem Nocturne”, and more.

The show begins at Breitbeck Park at 7:30 p.m.  Bring your chair and perhaps a blanket, as it’s likely to be a tad cool by the lakeside late in the day.

Board Approves Volunteer Work On Wilber Field

The Oswego City School District Board of Education today (July 14) approved the acceptance of a bid for sod replacement at Joe Wilber Field and allowing a volunteer to prepare the field for the sod installation. The board nearly didn’t get to the resolution as the meeting erupted into a shouting match between members Dave White and Fran Hoefer.
