The New York State Departments of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Agriculture and Markets (AGM) today announced the State’s 10th annual Invasive Species Awareness Week (ISAW) begins Monday, June 5. Free events and invasive species challenges are offered from June 5 through 11 across the state and online, including daily webinars at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

DEC Announces Completion Of New Accessible Cove Road Boat Ramp On The Barge Canal

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced the completion of a new boat launch on the Barge Canal at Cove Road in the town of Verona, Oneida County. The newly constructed launch, which enhances fishing and boating recreational opportunities for all visitors, including people with disabilities, connects to Oneida Lake and provides additional access to the lake’s world-class fishing.

HUD Makes $25 Million In Funding Available To Public Housing Authorities To Help Families Get Access To Better Housing, Schools

Today, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced that it will make available $25 million to public housing authorities (PHAs) for HUD’s Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Mobility Services. Through this program, PHAs will help an estimated 6,000 voucher families with children get a better opportunity to live in low-poverty neighborhoods with high-performing schools and other strong community resources.

DEC Announces June 15 Virtual Public Meeting To Discuss Integrated Watershed Action Plan For Sterling And Wolcott Creeks

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is holding a virtual public meeting to discuss the Sterling and Wolcott creeks Integrated Watershed Action Plans (IWAPs). In support of New York’s Great Lakes Action Agenda (GLAA), DEC worked with local partners and stakeholders to develop the plan. The IWAP process promotes collaboration among diverse stakeholders and empowers stakeholders and communities to develop a shared understanding of the ecosystem structure, function, and processes, and identifies actions, including management strategies and projects, that support ecosystem goals to benefit people, the environment, and local economies.
