DEC And NYSERDA Announce Public Webinar Series On Extreme Heat And Climate Change In New York State

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced today an upcoming public webinar series on the ways extreme heat is impacting New York State. As part of Governor Kathy Hochul’s 2022 State of the State directive and interim recommendations, work is underway to help New Yorkers and communities better understand and prepare for the impacts of extreme heat, including opportunities to learn about solutions for adapting to and forming partnerships to address extreme heat.

New York State Announces Funding To Protect Water Quality And Soil Health Around The Finger Lakes

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Department of Agriculture and Markets (AGM) today announced $370,000 for the Finger Lakes Cover Crop Initiative. The initiative helps support farmers’ use of cover crops to reduce erosion, implement watershed management plans, and protect water quality in and around the 11 Finger Lakes:Conesus, Hemlock, Canadice, Honeoye, Canandaigua, Keuka, Seneca, Cayuga, Owasco, Skaneateles, and Otisco.

Dec Issues Annual Muddy Trails Advisory For Adirondacks

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today urged hikers to postpone hikes on Adirondack trails above 2,500 feet until high elevation trails have dried and hardened. DEC resources provide information for hikers on how to reduce negative impacts on all trails and protect the natural resources throughout the Adirondacks during this time.
