Students from Oswego Middle School will be able to see firsthand the inner workings of a career in public service Tuesday May 28 during the city of Oswego Youth Government Day. The event is an opportunity for students to meet city council members, city staff, and participate in the Common Council meeting.

After an extensive local process, Bishop Robert J. Cunningham accepted the consensus based recommendation that St. Paul’s Church will be the home of Christ the Good Shepherd Parish.

Two local small businesses were recognized during National Small Business Week at the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 21st Annual Small Business Excellence Awards luncheon in Syracuse on May 6.

Mayor Billy Barlow said the Oswego City Code Enforcement Office and the Oswego City Police Department will collaborate to conduct a “code enforcement blitz” on the west side of the city of Oswego from State Route 104 to Lake Street in the First and Third wards.

Oswego County Legislature Chairman James Weatherup has declared a local State of Emergency, effective as of noon May 14, due to flooding conditions on Lake Ontario affecting communities along the shoreline from the Town of Oswego to the Town of Sandy Creek. Chairman Weatherup also issued a local emergency order for a “no wake zone” for boats 1,000 feet from the Lake Ontario shoreline and tributaries

At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council OK’d a lot of use of public space for a Triathlon, a concert, memorial fundraiser, Memorial Day celebration and more.

The cause of death is not immediately clear however, based on preliminary information, it does not appear that the death was the result of of any foul play.
