Historian Corey King leads a walking tour of Fort Ontario’s post cemetery Saturdays this fall. The four-part series begins on September 8 and continues September 15, 22 and 29. A worker at the county health department's mosquito laboratory in West Monroe separates species of mosquitoes for testing. Samples of mosquitoes that could carry the EEE virus are sent to the state Department of Health laboratory every week during the summer and tested to see if the EEE virus is present in Oswego County.

With families planning outdoor activities during the last few weeks of summer, Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang reminds residents of all ages to continue to protect themselves from mosquitoes until the first hard frost occurs. Huang said today (August 29) the New York State Health Department recently announced that two additional samples of mosquitoes collected at Toad Harbor Swamp have tested positive for EEE.
