Oswego Council Tweaks, OKs 2019 Budget

After a handful of small tweaks, the Common Council unanimously approved the 2019 spending plan for the Port City.  The budget contains the first reduction in city property taxes for city residents in 20 years. Mayor Billy Barlow’s budget proposal reduced the general tax rate from $15.67 per thousand dollars of assessed value in 2018 to $15.33 in 2019. The council’s reductions trimmed it to $15.28. It goes from a 2.11% reduction in city property taxes in the 2019 Operating Budget, to a 2.41%.

Menter Ambulance Plans for Expansion

A long standing Fulton business is set to nearly triple its size with a building expansion. Menter Ambulance Services has bought or acquired several properties adjacent to the Fulton central headquarters location at 404 Ontario St. The building, currently 5,600 sq. ft., will nearly triple in size to accommodate staff and equipment having doubled since 2013.

Fort Ontario Under Siege This Weekend

A regiment of the King’s army was set upon shortly after 10 O’clock this morning by a group of rebellious colonists while walking in East Park. The Continental Army attacked the British in the park on Bridge Street in Oswego. The attack forced the Loyalists to retreat and fighting continued up East Fourth Street to the gates of the British-held fort. Rebel troops launched a full-scale assault on the fort Saturday afternoon.
