Seaman Matthew Stellingwerf, from Fulton, NY, recently returned to Naval Station Mayport after a six-month deployment to the Middle East and Mediterranean area of operation aboard USS New York. The New York is a memorial to a horrific tragedy and spectacular heroism from the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Oswego Police Department Earns Reaccreditation

Mayor Billy Barlow is proud to announce that today (September 6) members of the Oswego City Police Department traveled to the state capital of Albany for a ceremony recognizing the department’s reaccreditation by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services. Lieutenant Craig Bateman was also presented with the “John Kimball O’Neil Certificate of Achievement” for serving as the Department’s Accreditation Program Manager.

Mexico Man Arrested For Allegedly Destroying American Flags In Cemetery

State Police said today (September 6) they have arrested Dylan Ackerman, 26, from Mexico, for Criminal Mischief 4th degree (A-misdemeanor), Criminal Tampering 3rd degree (B-misdemeanor) and Trespass (violation). On August 19, State Police responded to 3260 State Route 11 in the town of Mexico for a criminal mischief in progress complaint at the Mapleview Cemetery.

Vegetation Removal Work To Start On Oswego River In Fulton

Brookfield Renewable announced that work will be starting along the Oswego River at Route 57 opposite the Sunoco Ethanol Plant and extending to Huhtamaki Manufacturing. The company will be removing vegetation and trees in order to maintain the structural integrity of what is known at the “berm” along the river. The berm is in place for flood mitigation and dam safety.

Three Dogs Exposed to Rabid Raccoon in Orwell

Three dogs were exposed to the rabies virus in late August when they met up with a rabid raccoon in the town of Orwell, the Oswego County Health Department announced today (September 5). Jiancheng Huang, Oswego County Public Health Director, said the three dogs had current rabies vaccinations and were given rabies booster shots as a precautionary measure.
