Tops Markets today (August 30) provided an update on the progress it is making on its financial restructuring process. The West First Street, Fulton, store is one of the company’s targeted “underperforming stores.” The company today received court approval of its final agreement with the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.

A worker at the county health department's mosquito laboratory in West Monroe separates species of mosquitoes for testing. Samples of mosquitoes that could carry the EEE virus are sent to the state Department of Health laboratory every week during the summer and tested to see if the EEE virus is present in Oswego County.

More EEE Found at Toad Harbor Swamp

With families planning outdoor activities during the last few weeks of summer, Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang reminds residents of all ages to continue to protect themselves from mosquitoes until the first hard frost occurs. Huang said today (August 29) the New York State Health Department recently announced that two additional samples of mosquitoes collected at Toad Harbor Swamp have tested positive for EEE.

Oswego Council Tweaks, OKs 2019 Budget

After a handful of small tweaks, the Common Council unanimously approved the 2019 spending plan for the Port City.  The budget contains the first reduction in city property taxes for city residents in 20 years. Mayor Billy Barlow’s budget proposal reduced the general tax rate from $15.67 per thousand dollars of assessed value in 2018 to $15.33 in 2019. The council’s reductions trimmed it to $15.28. It goes from a 2.11% reduction in city property taxes in the 2019 Operating Budget, to a 2.41%.
