Successful Resolution to Man On Roof Incident

On June 18, at approximately 3:44 p.m., the Oswego City Police Department and the Oswego Fire Department responded to 140 W. Seneca St. in regard to a man who was on the roof of the residence and threatening to jump off. At approximately 3:25 a.m. today (June 19), the man was successfully taken into custody by police.

Additional $75,000 Earmarked For Oswego Lighthouse Restoration Project

On Thursday, the H. Lee White Maritime Museum and Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow will host an historic plaque dedication ceremony at the Oswego Lighthouse to recognize the historic Oswego landmark. In addition, Mayor Barlow will officially announce $75,000 in funding from the city of Oswego to paint the exterior of the lighthouse.

Mayor Barlow Announces $225,000 for Harbor Trail Improvement Project

Mayor Billy Barlow announced a $225,000 project enhancing the Oswego Harbor Trail along Breitbeck Park and the Oswego lake front in the city of Oswego. The Oswego Harbor Trail project will transform the recreational trail, clearing brush, weeds and overgrown vegetation in an effort to beautify the area and increase usage along the trail and Breitbeck Park.

Public Information Meeting Set For Downtown Oswego Route 104 Complete Streets Project

Mayor Billy Barlow announced a public information session on Monday at 3 p.m. at Oswego City Hall to unveil details on the city of Oswego State Route 104 Complete Streets Project. The $1.5 million project will transform three blocks along State Route 104 through downtown Oswego and was one of many projects funded through Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative in 2016.

Scouts, Elks Retire Flags At Fort Ontario

Most people believe the right way to retire an American Flag is to burn it – whole. However, that is not entirely correct. On Saturday, historic Fort Ontario hosted several representatives of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Oswego Lodge #271 as well as a large contingent of Girl Scout troops 10566 and 10567. Nearly two dozen members of the public were also in attendance.

Economic Development Organization Presents Annual Activity Summary, Achievement Awards

Operation Oswego County held its 66th annual meeting at the Lake Ontario Event and Conference Center, in Oswego on Friday, June 15. Barbara Bateman, president of the OOC board of directors, welcomed more than 150 representatives of businesses, government, education, labor and other ally organizations to the meeting. Keynote presenter Tim Hardy, General Manager of Sunoco Agri-Business, shared a video highlighting the 1886 Malt House.

Katko Ushers Landmark Legislation Through Congress To Address Synthetic Drug, Heroin Crisis Plaguing CNY

In a bipartisan vote this morning (June 15), the U.S. House of Representatives passed historic legislation introduced by Rep. John Katko to address the heroin and synthetic drug epidemic plaguing Central New York and communities nationwide. The bill was largely inspired by the advocacy of Oswego mother, Teresa Woolson, who lost her son, Victor, in 2012 when he drowned after using synthetic drugs that he purchased legally in a head shop in Oswego. Since Victor’s death, Teresa has been a tremendous local and national advocate in the fight to outlaw synthetic drugs.

Lanigan Student Congress Volunteers to “Sparkle-A-Park”

Members of Lanigan Elementary School’s Student Congress each brought a friend and gathered at Fulton’s Patrick Park to clean and beautify the playground. Students in grades third through sixth worked together to remove trash and debris, rake leaves and grass, pull weeds, and plant flowers just as they had previously at Recreation Park.
