Three Unvaccinated Dogs Exposed to Rabies in Oswego County

Three unvaccinated dogs were exposed to rabies in Oswego County in separate incidents over the past week, the Health Department reported today. In Richland, two unvaccinated dogs were exposed to rabies during an encounter with a raccoon. A third dog was exposed in the town of Albion through a rabid skunk. Another rabid skunk was confirmed in city of Oswego but there were no known exposures to rabies from the skunk.

The incoming SUNY Oswego freshman class of 2021 broke the record for diversity for what is now the third consecutive year. “I think that diversity is important to everybody, every student on this campus. Pedestrian Struck By Vehicle, In Serious Condition

At about 6:17 p.m. today (Sept. 14), the Oswego City Police Department was dispatched to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle at the intersection of East Bridge and Sixth streets. A 32-year-old woman was struck by a small SUV, police report. She was transported by Mentor Ambulance to Fulton where she was then transported to Upstate Medical Center, Syracuse, by Mercy Flight with serious injuries. The investigation is on-going.

Dr. Sungeun Kim, a faculty member of SUNY Oswego’s electrical and computer engineering department, recently received a grant award of nearly $119,000 to use big-data techniques in support of earlier and more accurate diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. The grant, from the National Library of Medicine of the National Institutes of Health, will assist a project — “Integrating Neuroimaging, Multi-omics, and Clinical Data in Complex Disease” — that Kim has under way in collaboration with two other researchers.

SUNY Oswego has once again earned a top 50 ranking in the 2018 “Top Regional Universities in the North” from U.S. News and World Report, as well as a top 100 placement in Washington Monthly, which rates schools on their contribution to the public good. Oswego tied for 13th among public universities in the North Region, 48th overall, among institutions in the U.S. News and World Report ratings.
