Council Awards Demolition of Remaining Buildings at Former Nestle Site

The Fulton Common Council has unanimously approved a demolition resolution that may be the final stage in the ongoing demolition at the former Nestle site. Rowlee Construction Inc. of Fulton was awarded the demolition project to tear down the remaining structures on the 24-acre site including buildings #2,4A,58,60,63,70 after submitting the lowest bid. Demolition on site has been ongoing since shortly after the city received the 24-acre site located at 555 S. Fourth St. on tax foreclosure in November 2015.

Fulton Draws Historic Hunter Arms Enthusiasts From Across Nation

The Friends of History in Fulton’s seventh annual Hunter Arms Homecoming weekend brought collectors and enthusiasts of the historic L.C. Smith guns back to the city where the once thriving factory once persevered. The Hunter Arms Company lasted for 60 years in what became known as “the city the Depression missed” as Fulton saw economic stability even through troubling times for much of the country. The Hunter family has remained closely connected with its rich family history, even returning alongside several Hunter enthusiasts from across the nation at Fulton’s annual Hunter Arms Homecoming Weekend. They stumbled across their history serendipitously, but the story is one that they won’t soon forget as they went on to discover they have a plentiful history with much to explore in a small city in Upstate New York.

Council Committee Paves Way For More Roadwork

At Monday night’s Administrative Services Committee meeting, councilors paved the way for more road work in the Port City. They gave a favorable recommendation to a request for Change Order No. 1 for additional milling and paving work to be performed under the 2017 Milling and Paving Project in the amount of $227,200 with Riccelli Enterprises. It would increase the cost of the project to $725,200.

Health Officials Offer Advice on Capturing Bats in the Home

Over the past few weeks, there has been a sharp increase in the number of Oswego County residents who needed post-exposure rabies treatments because of possible exposure to bats. Bats are typically more active this time of year and it’s critically important that people try to capture any bats that may have come in contact with a person or pet. Humans can develop rabies after undetected exposure to a rabid bat.

‘Fulton NY Rocks’ Finding Rocks, Spreading Positivity

A simple rock, assuming we may walk past hundreds in a day, may not typically have the capability to bring a smile to our face. However, the Facebook group “Fulton NY Rocks” has taken aim to change that entirely. Stumbling upon a once simple, meaningless rock has taken new meaning since the more than 4,000 members of the group began using such rocks to promote kindness and positivity. Thousands of rocks, hand painted and designed with artistic imagery, uplifting messages, or positive phrases are being found all over the city with a simple message on the back: “If found, please post a picture to Fulton NY Rocks, then keep or re-hide!”
