Fence Links Oswego To International History
A 10-foot length of forgotten chain link fence, nearly 80 years old, is steeped in American History. The fence that once encircled Fort Ontario’s Safe Haven is being harvested as part of “America’s Response to the Holocaust,” a display being planned at the National Holocaust Museum in Washington. Safe Haven was the only place of its kind in the United States during World War II. The fence was the meeting place for many refugee and townspeople.
