Verizon To Improve Cell Phone Coverage In Oswego

OSWEGO, NY – The Common Council took steps Monday night to enhance cell phone coverage in the Port City.

A trio of public hearings was held Monday night regarding the placement of three Verizon Wireless Telecommunications facilities.

One will be installed at 269 E. Eighth St. (Riley Elementary School) a second at 41 Lake St. (McCrobie Building) and the third at 341 NYS Route 104 (Wal-Mart).

No resident spoke in opposition to the proposals at the public hearings.

This will improve cellular coverage for its consumers using cell service with the city of Oswego, according to a Verizon spokesperson.

The applications were referred to the Planning Board for an advisory opinion and then returned to the Planning and Development Committee who forwarded them to the full council for three separate public hearings and further consideration.

A special permit for the installation of the facilities was granted, subject to the provisions of the NYS Building Code as administered by the city.

The mayor was authorized to sign the lease agreement with Verizon.

The applications were approved 6-0-1, with Councilor Nate Emmons excused.
