Coordinator of Recreation, Youth Development Aims To Enhance Camp Experience

Matthew Wood, the newly-hired coordinator of recreation and youth development for the Oswego County Parks and Recreation Department, was born and grew up in Oswego County. “I am a Fulton native and I still think it can be and is the ‘City with a Future.’ I still dream of waking to the smell of chocolate and knowing that means it’s going to rain,” he said. “I believe that there are many areas in the county that are underutilized. We have such a wealth of natural areas and resources to explore and many people don’t even know they exist.”

Gov. Cuomo Announces $7M Available For Homeowners Impacted By Flooding On Lake Ontario, St. Lawrence River

Governor Cuomo announced $7 million in state funding to assist homeowners that have been impacted by flooding along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River. The new investment program will provide up to $40,000 for homeowners to support interior and exterior repairs to structural damage caused by flooding, as well as the repair or replacement of permanent fixtures. This funding is in addition to the $10 million in state funding announced for eligible municipalities, and the up to $5 million in grants announced for small businesses with physical damage or loss as a result of flooding.

Bishop Cunningham Announces Additional Pastoral Changes in the Diocese of Syracuse

The Most Reverend Robert J. Cunningham, Bishop of Syracuse has released the most recent pastoral appointments and changes in the Diocese of Syracuse. Rev. Joseph E. Scardella, currently serving as pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption in Baldwinsville, has been appointed as pastor of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Fulton, effective July 1.

‘Their Dying Shows Us That Freedom Is Not Free’ Fulton Honors Memorial Day

For many veterans, to stand in the rain may be but a small inconvenience when compared to the tribulations of battle. To stand through the rain while honoring their fallen comrades, however, is no inconvenience at all but instead, an honor. Several veterans of various distinctions representing local veterans services organizations came together this Memorial Day (May 29) to pay tribute to the fallen through a ceremony organized by the Fulton Veterans’ Council. They paired with elected officials, local law enforcement, and a large number of members of the Fulton community to recognize the many local heroes who lost their life in the name of freedom.

Fulton’s 36th Annual Memorial Day Salute

The 36th annual Fulton Memorial Day Salute wasn’t halted by the early rain as hundreds of community members lined Broadway to watch parade entries go by one by one. The parade, organized by Cre8 Studios L.L.C., held roughly 100 parade entries. “Despite a rainy morning we had a great turn out for the parade both in participants and spectators,” said Heathe Jones of Cre8 Studios. Lawrence Macner led the parade as Grand Marshall as the 2017 Veteran of the Year, selected by the Fulton Veterans Council.

Rabid Skunk Found in Minetto

The Oswego County Health Department reported today (May 26) that a skunk has tested positive for rabies in the town of Minetto. A dog which came in contact with the skunk was up-to-date on its rabies shots and was given a rabies booster shot as a required precaution. There was no human exposure. “The rabies virus is widespread in Oswego County and across the region this spring, and we are continuing to receive new reports,” said Jiancheng Huang, Oswego County Public Health Director.

Tim Conners Begins Trek To Top of Mount Kilimanjaro

Today (May 26), some 7,556 miles from Fulton, Tim Conners will start his journey to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro at it’s peak height of 19,341 feet, the highest point on the African continent. Conners, a 22-year-old Fulton native, is climbing the mountain as part of his fundraiser mission, MounTimPossible to give back to organizations he says saved his life and to share his mantra to “redefine possible.”
