Fulton BOE Adopts 2017-18 Budget Following Increased State Aid

The Fulton Board of Education unanimously adopted a $70,782,921 budget for the 2017-2018 school year with the six present board member’s votes in favor. In it’s adopted form, the budget shows a 0.63% increase in spending from last year with a 1.34% decrease in the tax levy, resulting in lower taxes for property owners within the district. “I think it’s a fair budget,” said FCSD superintendent, Brian Pulvino.

Students Advocate For Safer, Improved Playground

The Council Chamber was packed Tuesday as nearly 100 Kingsford Park Elementary School second graders marched to City Hall with a message for Mayor Billy Barlow. The city-owned playground adjacent to the west side school has fallen into disrepair and the students voiced their concerns to the mayor and other city officials. There are some safety concerns, bad words that should be covered and other concerns, they said.

Fulton Block Builders Complete Fundraising Match for $100,000 Grant

“Local businesses have taken the Fulton Block Builders over their fundraising goal! Kenwell Corporation, Mimi’s Diner, Eastern Shore Associates, Patterson Warehousing, and Bellinger Auto Sales & Service have all donated to the Fulton Block Builders, collectively putting FBB over our goal,” said Linda Eagan, FBB Administrative Director. Realizing the goal meant matching a $100,000 commitment from the Richard S. Shineman Foundation to jump start the grassroots organization in its first year.

Council OKs Bicentennial Canal Theatre Project

The Common Council approved use of public space and funds in order to support and sponsor the Bicentennial Canal Theatre Project to be held August 18. The production will be directed by Steven York, and is an original dramatic play written by Oswego native Rick Sivers. The project has already received some outside financial support. The city’s share will be $4,000 or less.
