Professor O’Neil Wins Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award

OHS grad Michael O’Neil, an assistant professor of mathematics at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering and the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, will receive a 2017 Office of Naval Research Young Investigator award to pursue a new generation of simulation and design tools for computational electromagnetics using fast, high-order, analysis-based algorithms.

The Oswego County Hospice provides comprehensive care and support to terminally ill individuals throughout Oswego County. The hospice program is primarily a service delivered in the home or in a contracted nursing home, by a team of Hospice professionals and volunteers. “We are proud to be a local hospice, providing local care,” said Judy Lester, Director of Patient Services for the Oswego County Health Department.

Canal Theatrical Proposal Flows Through Committee

Fifth Ward Councilor John Gosek is seeking consideration from the Common Council to authorize the use of funds and public space of the city to support and sponsor the theatrical production of the recounting of the building of the Oswego Canal. At its meeting Monday night, the Administrative Services Committee gave a favorable recommendation to a retooled version of the request the council vice president made a few months ago.

Anti-Defamation League Welcomes Decision By Oswego County CiTi To Remove Holocaust Simulation Activity

The Anti-Defamation League today (April 3) welcomed the decision by the CiTi BOCES program in Oswego County to remove an inappropriate classroom lesson plan that asked students to write an essay arguing for or against the Nazi perspective on the “Final Solution,” the term used for a plan to eliminate the Jewish people during the Holocaust.

The third annual Parent University was “phenomenal,” said Geri Geitner, the director of student support services at Fulton City School District. “The best part for me, was to see everyone having fun. To see that school is fun, learning is fun, and to see parents and children getting to enjoy that together,” she said. The event, in its third year, has grown bigger and better with each passing year. Saturday, (April 1) G. Ray Bodley High School hosted the event with five hours of free family fun.

Block Builders Reach 99% of Fundraising Goal, Thanks to Huhtamaki

Mark Southwick presented Linda Eagan with a check for $1,000 to support the Fulton Block Builder (FBB) matching grant program. “Huhtamaki believes it is important to do the right thing by each other and our customers: including the communities where we work and live. FBB’s mission to Restore City Pride -One Block at a Time is a program Huhtamaki is proud to support,” said Southwick. The FBB Block Challenge is a revitalization program that encourages groups of neighbors to collaborate on exterior improvements to their properties in order to build confidence in Fulton’s neighborhoods and inspire others to reinvest.

SUNY Oswego Smashes World Record For Longest Conga Line On Ice During Rokerthon

Today’s Al Roker, visited SUNY Oswego today (March 31), his alma mater, for the final day of Rokerthon 3. He helped students set a new Guinness World Record for the most amount of people doing a conga line on ice. The group easily skated past the old record; performing the longest conga line on ice in the Marano Campus Center arena during a live broadcast of NBC’s Today show, hosted by Roker ’76.
