Epic Snowfall Precedes the Winona Forest 37th Annual XC Tourathon

Upwards of 10 feet of snow in the past 10 days in Winona Forest will provide a spectacular winter wonderland and excellent conditions for the 37th annual Cross-Country Ski Tourathon Saturday, Feb. 11. Participants may choose from 12.5, 25, or 50 K distance races. All ages and abilities are encouraged to come out and enjoy the outdoors while participating in a healthy outdoor sport.

North Bay Campers Speak Out Against Rate Increase

Many seasonal campers at Fulton’s North Bay Campground were outraged to learn that the Common Council had increased the season rate for the 2017 season. Last month, the council implemented a variety of new and increased rates including the seasonal site rate increase from $675 to $850. Some routine seasonal campers approached the Common Council at a regular meeting held Tuesday (Feb 7) to express their distaste in the rate changes.

Ritchie To Testify Before Canada’s Parliament Wednesday

Ritchie: Senate Approves Measure To Bring Ride-Sharing To Upstate NY

State Senator Patty Ritchie is applauding Senate passage of a measure she supported that would bring ride-sharing to Upstate New York and in turn, expand transportation options for people, especially in rural communities, as well as boost the economy. Under the measure (S.4159), Transportation Network Companies (TNCs) like Lyft and Uber would be permitted to operate outside New York City.

Oswego Moves Ahead With Plan To Update Zoning

The city took another step forward at Monday night in its efforts to rewrite and update its zoning codes. All of the councilors have probably received calls from someone, Mayor Billy Barlow said, “complaining about bureaucracy and redundancy in our current system.” A lot of that, in his opinion, is due to an antiquated building code that was adopted nearly 80 years ago, he added. The council hopes to have the updated zoning codes in place by the end of the year.

Reminder: Dialing Area Code Required on Feb. 11

Oswego County residents are reminded that they must dial the area code when placing both local and long distance calls beginning Feb. 11. The regional overlay of a new area code will begin in March. Any new telephone numbers issued in Central New York will be assigned the ‘680’ area code. It will not replace the ‘315’ area code in any phone numbers currently in existence.

State Of Emergency Declared In Oswego County

Kevin Gardner, Chairman of the Oswego County Legislature, has declared a State of Emergency in Oswego County beginning at 4:04 p.m. today (Feb. 3) due to heavy lake effect snow occurring in the northern portion of the county. A travel ban for the Redfield-Boylston area in the northeastern part of the county was issued by Oswego County Sheriff Reuel A. Todd earlier today due to extreme heavy snow.
