Lawmakers Introduce Legislation To Strengthen Criminal Law Regarding Assault

As part of their efforts to make the penal law more responsive and realistic, Assemblymen Bob Oaks, Will Barclay and Senator Pattie Ritchie have introduced legislation (Assembly bill 5268 and Senate bill 4022) that would add a new section of law that creates the Class E felony crime of aggravated assault in the third degree. The impetus for this law was an assault on a female bartender in Oswego Town in July of 2016.

Schumer: Animal Advocates Should Not Have To Play Tug Of War On Transparency With New Administration’s USDA

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer today (Feb. 17) called on the U.S. Department of Agriculture to reverse its decision to remove inspection reports on animal facilities and related animal cruelty information from its website. The USDA annually inspects approximately 9,000 licensed facilities including dog and cat breeding facilities, laboratories and more.

International Women’s Day Event Slated March 5 at CiTi

The Zonta Club of Oswego will be hosting a celebration of International Women’s Day at the Center for Instruction, Technology and Innovation, 179 County Route 64 in Mexico on March 5 from 1-4 p.m. Zonta has planned an interactive program for women and girls age 10 and up that promises an afternoon of entertainment, learning and fun.
