Tobacco Free Network, Reality Check Send Students to Albany

TFN is home to Reality Check, a New York State youth led movement that targets tobacco companies and their marketing strategies that appeal to youth. The local Reality Check program is preparing to send four students from the catchment areas to Albany, NY for Legislative Day on February 7. One student from G. Ray Bodley High School in Fulton, one student from Paul V. Moore High School in Central Square and two students from ITC in Syracuse will travel to the state capitol to meet with state legislators along with 25 other contracts from Reality Check programs throughout the state.

Fulton to Hold Public Hearing Regarding Proposed Zone Change

The Fulton Common Council has announced a public hearing in regards to a proposed zone change on a one block stretch on the city’s west side. The city block surrounding West Broadway, West Third Street, Beech Street and West Fourth Street is currently zoned C-2, Commercial. The proposed zone change intends to make all properties on the block C-2A, Commercial allowing partial residential uses of the properties.

Flu Is in full Swing in Oswego County

According to the Oswego County Health Department, 74 lab-confirmed cases of the flu had been reported in Oswego County as of Jan. 23. More than half of those cases were reported in children 18 years of age or younger. Last week, the number of flu cases reported doubled compared to the number of cases reported the previous week.

Syracuse Diocese to Kick Off Catholic Schools Week with Day of Service

The 22 Catholic schools within the Diocese of Syracuse will once again celebrate Catholic Schools Week, January 29 – February 4. “On Monday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Paul’s Church Hall, all of grades K-6 will be making fleece blankets as part of Linus Project,” Trinity Catholic School Principal Barb Sugar told Oswego County Today. “Blankets will be donated to Golisano Children’s Hospital.” Several other events are planned for the week.
