The nationally-ranked Oswego State men’s ice hockey team will host its annual Whiteout Weekend – when fans are encouraged to wear white – on Friday and Saturday, with Saturday’s contest yielding a special celebration. During the first intermission, Oswego will recognize the 10th anniversary of the college’s only team national championship by honoring several 2006-07 teammates on the ice.

Demolition remains ongoing at the former Nestles property in Fulton, specifically targeting the more than two-acre corner lot promised to global supermarket chain, ALDI. Fulton Mayor Ronald Woodward Sr. said that Aldi is still interested in the site and demolition remains ongoing through the winter to the best that weather conditions allow. On January 29, State Police responded to State Route 264 in the town of Schroeppel for a report of a two-car property damage motor vehicle accident. While Troopers were responding to the scene, 911 reported one of the driver’s involved, Kellan J. Meade, fled the scene on foot.

On January 28, 2017, the Oswego County Fire Service lost a brother firefighter who exemplified the “Volunteer Firefighter.” Al Heath, better known as “Haz Mat Al,” passed away this past Saturday after a yearlong battle with cancer. Al’s career in the fire service started when he joined the US Navy in 1970 – 1976, serving as a Damage Control Specialist and later as a Damage Control Instructor.
On Jan. 30, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the bipartisan Fort Ontario Study Act, legislation introduced by U.S. Rep John Katko (NY-24) which would put Fort Ontario and Safe Haven National Refugee Shelter in Oswego on the path towards becoming a National Park. Katko was joined by Reps. Claudia Tenney (NY-22) and Louise Slaughter (NY-25) in introducing this legislation. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has introduced the measure in the Senate.
