2016 In Review: In February, Oswego Warms Up

In early February, the Port City celebrated what the area is best known for – Winter. The only thing missing was the snow. This year marked the 11th annual Warm Up Oswego Fire and Ice Festival. Temperatures lingered near 40 Saturday; the windchill made it feel even colder. However, the hundreds of people who flocked to Elim Grace Church and all around the downtown Oswego didn’t seem to mind.

2016 In Review: January – New Year, New Oswego Mayor

On a snowy cold and blustery New Year’s Day, William J. Barlow Jr. was sworn in as Oswego’s new mayor. “Having the honor of being the mayor of this city is the opportunity of a lifetime. I am humbled, thankful and grateful to the residents for this opportunity,” Barlow said in his inaugural speech Friday (Jan. 1). “To the residents of the city who placed their trust in me, thank you and I promise to work passionately and enthusiastically every day and always make the right decisions for the right reasons.”

Eastern Air Defense Sector Aids NORAD’s Annual Santa Claus Tracking Mission

When you’re an old and chubby guy hauling zillions of dollars worth of toys and goodies on your sleigh in the dark of night with only eight tiny reindeer for protection – it’s safe to say you could use some more security. And, if you cover the entire world in one night, you need someone that can keep up with you. That’s where The US Air Force comes in. On Christmas Eve, New York Air National Guardsmen and Royal Canadian Air Force personnel from the Eastern Air Defense Sector will play a key role as the North American Aerospace Defense Command tracks Santa Claus and his reindeer.

The public hearing will be held at the Oswego City School District Education Center board room and will start at 5 p.m. before the committee and regular board meeting which will start immediately following the public hearing.

Car Strikes House Causing Road Closure in Fulton; The Driver Has Died

UPDATE: The driver of the vehicle died. The driver has been identified as Michael Harris, 62 years of age, of Hannibal. He reportedly suffered a medical condition that caused the crash.
Deputy Chief of Police Jason Delano has confirmed that a one-vehicle accident on West First Street South in Fulton involved a vehicle crashing into a house.

Bishop Cunningham to Celebrate Mass at Cathedral on Christmas Eve, Day

Most Reverend Robert J. Cunningham, Bishop of Syracuse, will celebrate Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Syracuse on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. On Christmas Eve, the Cathedral will open at 3 pm. At 4, youth will present the Young People’s Dramatization of the Nativity featuring Cantor Tallon Larham.
