Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station Unit 1 was removed from service today (Dec. 10) at approximately 9 a.m. due to vibration indications on the main turbine, which is located on the non-nuclear side of the plant. Operators took the appropriate action to shut down the unit in accordance with their procedures and training. Technicians are working to identify the cause of the issue and determine required repairs.

On Friday, December 9, at approximately 10:30 p.m., members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to a serious physical injury car versus bicycle accident on State Route 104 in the Town of Oswego.

At 6:04 p.m. today (Dec. 9) members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office responded to 36 Chase Road in the town of Granby for a reported structure fire. A single-family residence was in flames upon arrival. It was reported to be occupied by one individual. Fire personnel recovered one person from the burning structure promptly upon arrival and he was pronounced dead upon recovery.

FERC on Wednesday (Dec. 7) approved Exelon’s acquisition of the troubled James A. FitzPatrick nuclear plant in New York, rejecting a protest that its review should have included the impact of a state-mandated ratepayer subsidy.

Other funding from the the New York State Regional Economic Development Council awards announced today includes money for Fulton, Phoenix and others.

The award includes a $245,077 grant for the installation of the Seneca Street Neighborhood Bikeway project, $68,000 to conduct a feasibility study for developing a multipurpose athletic center, $590,000 for Westside Waterfront improvements and $40,000 to develop a strategy to implement public art throughout Downtown Oswego as the city works to allocate the already awarded $10 million in Downtown Revitalization funding from earlier this year.
