Parades are noted as slow with many breaks. That wasn’t the case as nearly 30 Modifieds, Small Blocks, Sportsmen and Pro Stocks started off at City Line Road, headed to East Tenth Street and then up the Utica Street hill before turning on to West First Street, right on Bridge and headed back to the Oswego Speedway pits. Later, the dirt racers would take to the newly “paved” clay oval around 3 p.m.

The Phoenix Police Department has taken to Facebook to ask village residents to “refrain from dressing up like clowns for Halloween.” The request, triggering varied response from the public, was posted to the Phoenix Village Police Department Facebook page.
A procession of DIRTcar Racing race cars will take to the streets of Oswego, with a police escort, to officially kick off NAPA Auto Parts Super DIRT Week on Wednesday at noon. As many as 50 Big-Block Modifieds, 358-Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds and Pro Stocks will leave two-by-two from Gate 6 at Oswego Speedway.
Governor Andrew Cuomo today (Oct. 3) announced a new public awareness campaign encouraging New Yorkers to report the illegal sales of synthetic drugs, commonly referred to as synthetic marijuana. The campaign consists of ads that warn New Yorkers about the dangers associated with use of these man-made drugs and inform those who suffer from addiction that help is available.
October got a warm welcome as the first day of the month brought residents from the Village of Phoenix to their local waterfront to enjoy fall festivities at Phoenix’s first ever, “Locktoberfest.” Expanding on last year’s successful “Phoenix Fall Phestival,” sponsorship from the NYS Canal Corporation helped the event grow and be reintroduced under the new name, “Locktoberfest” running from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Oct 1) for a full day of fun.

Karl Haist of Clarence Center, NY, returned to the champion’s podium in a big way Saturday at the Great Pumpkin fest. His pumpkin weighed in at just less than one ton. And, it was more than 500 pounds heavier than the runner-up.
On Friday and Saturday evenings, Oct. 14 and 15, the Friends of Fort Ontario, Central New York Ghost Hunters, and NYS Parks will host the annual Ghost Reveal and Tour event at Fort Ontario State Historic Site in Oswego. Tours are by advance reservation only. Tickets are $15 and may be purchased by calling (315) 343-4711, by visiting the fort’s museum shop Wednesday through Sunday.
At Fulton City Hall recently, a “tri-partisan” group of elected officials got together to encourage local residents to participate in this year’s elections. These office holders who are Republicans, Democrats and Conservatives decided to jointly send a message to the public to please “get out and vote” on November 8.
