Hannibal Man Robbed at Gunpoint, Shot Reportedly Fired
On Saturday night (July 30), members of the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the Oswego hospital emergency room where a man was reporting that he was the victim of a robbery involving a firearm and that he had been possibly shot in the head.
Residents, Dogs Rescued From Burning Building
The Oswego Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire with trapped occupants at 8:16 a.m. today (July 31). Upon arrival, OFD command reported heavy fire conditions in the front of the two-story multiple-occupancy and confirmed victims in a second story window. Two young children, an adult and two dogs were rescued.
Historian Tom Ebert To Lecture Aug. 17 at Fort Ontario
Lt. General Robert E. Lee issued what is known today as General Order No. 9, sometimes referred to as his farewell address to the Army of Northern Virginia, on April 10, 1865. Lee declared that, “After four years of arduous service marked by unsurpassed courage and fortitude, the Army of Northern Virginia has been compelled to yield to overwhelming numbers and resources.”

The long term grocer in Hannibal, Jim Mirabito of the Village Market IGA has recently confirmed the sale of the store to Tops Friendly Markets. After 50 years of service as Hannibal’s only withstanding full-scale grocery store, the Village Market located at 409 Fulton Street will close officially at 3 p.m. on August 7. A recent press release from Tops officials have confirmed that the store will re-open as a chain of Tops Friendly Markets on August 11.
MedSafe Medication Disposal Box Now Available in Phoenix
Together, H.O.P.E and the Medicine Place located at 464 Main Street, proudly announced the new resource available to the community and surrounding areas, a MedSafe Box for unused medication. H.O.P.E founder, Savannah Jacquay said David Dingman, local pharmacist and one of the forum’s keynote contributor/panelists immediately began looking into the guidelines and requirements for housing a MedSafe box and ultimately made it happen.
Hundreds March In 29th Annual Children’s Parade
Hundred of youngsters, their friends and families, marched from Breitbeck Park to the Novelis Family Park (West Park) on Friday in idyllic weather. The annual Children’s Parade is considered by many to be the official start of Harborfest.
City Officials Urge Caution Regarding Bears
Last night (July 28), authorities received calls about a bear on the east side of the city. They were able to quickly locate the bear, and with the help of the Department of Environmental Conservation, the Oswego Police, and City of Oswego Animal Control, the bear was diverted out of the area without incident. Harborfest 29 Kicks Off In The Port City
The 29th annual festival was greeted by warm temperatures and partly cloudy skies – with hundreds of people, young and old, ready to celebrate. Blues Traveler was nearly an hour late in performing. The fun continues throughout the weekend. Highlights include Friday’s Children’s Parade and Saturday’s fireworks display.
