Oswego Fire Department personnel were dispatched to 166 West Utica Street for a reported structure fire at 2:34 am. today (July 28). Firefighters arrived on the scene at 2:38 a.m. and reported heavy smoke showing from the two-story multiple occupancy. Residents of the two apartments reported that they were in bed at the time of the fire, and that they smelled smoke and were able to exit the structure.
The countdown to Harborfest 2016 is at a fever pitch, according to executive director Peter Myles. Activity got under way Wednesday at the midway. The Army Band will perform on the NRG Lakeview Stage in Breitbeck Park at 5:15 p.m. today (July 28) followed at 7 p.m. by Prime Time Horns.
Hannibal residents have recently learned of the loss of one of the community’s longest known assets. The Hannibal Village Market IGA has been Hannibal’s only withstanding full-scale grocery store for the past 50 years and one of few remaining family owned stores locally. Current owner, Jim Mirabito has ran the store for the last 24 years and recently confirmed that Tops will be taking over the store by the end of summer.
The driver, Morgan O’Neil, 20, from Oswego, was found to be operating the vehicle without insurance, police said. She was further found to allegedly be in possession of marijuana and heroin. Both passengers, Zachery Palmitese, and Marc Walpole, from Oswego, were also in possession of heroin, according to the report.
At 10:55 a.m. today (July 27), State Police stopped a vehicle on State Route 48 at Lamson Road, for a traffic violation. Investigation at the scene revealed the driver and sole occupant, Cody Dygert, from Fulton, was allegedly operating with a suspended permit, and was also in possession of heroin.
The Oswego County Health Department reported today (July 27) that a skunk in the city of Fulton has tested positive for rabies. The skunk potentially exposed a person and two dogs to the rabies virus. The incident is still under investigation by the health department.
In preparation for Harborfest 2016, the Oswego Police Department wishes to announce the following advisories regarding traffic, pedestrian and general information specific to the Harborfest celebration scheduled for July 28 – 31.
The Oswego County Bicentennial Committee is sponsoring a photo contest this summer to celebrate the county’s 200th anniversary. The finalists in several categories will be displayed in the Heritage Building at the Oswego County Fair in August.
The Oswego City-County Youth Bureau sponsored a training class recently for new members to Youth Court. More than a dozen middle school and high school students completed the week-long training classes sponsored by the Oswego City-County Youth Bureau in the Council Chamber at City Hall. Youth Court is a Family Court diversion program aimed at reducing juvenile delinquency in the city and county of Oswego.
On July 21, the Fulton Police Department executed a search warrant at 110 W. First St., N., apartment #1 in the city of Fulton. The search warrant was the result of a joint investigation with the Oswego County Drug Task Force into the alleged sales and distribution of heroin and marihuana by Gerald J. Whitney IV from that residence.
