Oswego Moves Ahead With Marketing Project

At its meeting this week, the Common Council approved the marketing proposal initiative to promote the city of Oswego submitted by Oswego’s Promotion and Tourism Advisory Board. They will set up an informational event during Harborfest later this month. They will also distribute “table tents” (small placards) to area restaurants to further promote future events in the Port City.

Council OKs Moving Ahead With Fort Master Plan, Development Of Former Flexo Wire Site

The council authorized the Planning and Zoning Director to submit a grant application to develop a master plan of the Fort Ontario Complex. The complex is a large recreational area in the city, according to Paul Lear, historic site manager of Fort Ontario. “It hasn’t seen any significant improvements since the 1960s,” he told the council. Councilors also unanimously approved the proposal submitted by Housing Visions Consultants for the development of the Flexo Wire site.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Logging Accident in Volney

At 10:40 a.m. today (July 11), State Police responded to a report of an unconscious male involved in a logging accident off Mullen Road in the town of Volney. Investigation at the scene revealed Shane D. Moore, 54, of Fulton, had been cutting down trees at the site when he was struck by a falling branch.

Silver Bay Motorist Charged After Leading Troopers on Pursuit

On Friday, July 8, at approximately 11:17 a.m., State Police in Pulaski attempted to stop a speeding Dodge minivan travelling northbound on Interstate 81 in the town of Richland. The driver failed to comply and continued northbound into Jefferson County, police said. The vehicle eventually came to a stop near exit 44 in the town of Adams

Oswego Man Arrested for Robbery Attempt in Volney

On July 7, State Police charged Marcus Miller, of Oswego, with Attempted Robbery 1st degree. At 2:55 a.m., police responded to an attempted robbery complaint that occurred in the town of Volney. Investigation revealed the victim was driving Miller to a residence in the city of Fulton, police said. While en route, Miller allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded the victim drive to his house and surrender a TV and other electronics to Miller upon arrival.

On Friday, July 8, at approximately 6:15 p.m., State Police responded to 93 Rathburn Road in the town of Granby for a missing 5 year-old child. When troopers arrived, they began searching the area around the house, garage and pool areas. The child was located at the bottom of the in-ground pool behind the home.

Oswego Council Eyes Improvements for City Streets and Property

At its meeting Monday night, the Common Council will consider several resolutions to make improvements to various city properties, streets and more. The community development director recommended Housing Visions Consultants as the qualified developer for the development of the Flexo Wire site. They’re proposing to construct a five-story mixed use building containing about 40 one-bedroom quality rental units, 11 two-bedroom quality rental units and about 10,000 square feet of retail – commercial space on the north end of the site facing Lake Street.
